In this time of online business everyone claims to be the best, but not everyone can be the best, right?  In our industry, at least, there are many companies importing the same moonshine stills from China, many passing them off as their own.  Brewhaus is different.

Brewhaus is a manufacturer, wholesaler, and retailer of alcohol stills and distilling supplies. We spend thousands of dollars every year on development and equipment to improve and expand our manufacturing capabilities. This includes most of our moonshine stills as well as the High Spirits line of turbo yeasts. While many of the raw materials may not be available from US sources and must be imported, we strive to bring manufacturing in-house and produce many of our items in our Texas facility. This often makes it possible to offer prices competitive to the imported items but with higher quality! We take great pride in our moonshine stills, turbo yeast, and other items that we manufacture and stand behind.

Established in 1992, we the oldest supplier of moonshine stills and distilling supplies in North America.  Others may claim to be the oldest, but many even started out as our customers.

MADE IN THE USA!

We do not just import our columns from China and make you believe that they are produced in the USA, or even worse, sell you a column that is not even stocked in the country and have it shipped to you from China. We proudly manufacture them right here in Texas!

We have invested extremely heavily in equipment to be able to cut our tubing with extreme precision using a laser cutter, weld it beautifully with a fiber optic laser welder, then test and polish each tee section, bubble plate, and adapter. While many parts are not available from American producers, wherever possible (and feasible), we source our parts and raw materials from US suppliers to keep our columns as American-made as we can.  That is why you will see a “Made in the USA from imported and domestic materials” statement on most of our products.

How your still is made is as important as how it is designed.

At Brewhaus, we understand the importance of how stainless steel is handled to maintain the corrosion resistance of your still. This starts with storage and cutting. Our stainless steel sheet and tubing are all cut using state-of-the-art fiber optic laser cutting. Imagine a large CNC machine capable of working with 4ft x 8ft sheets of metal and tubing up to 20 feet long, that uses a high-powered fiber optic laser to cut it. The cuts are precise, but more importantly, they are fast and do not subject the stainless steel to an extended time under high heat, dramatically reducing the effects of cutting on the corrosion resistance of the metal.

That is followed by using a fiber optic laser welder to weld our parts. Fiber optic lasers are able to provide a much higher heat level but in a far more pinpoint location. This makes the welding much faster, again reducing the welding effects on the metal. TIG welding, which is generally the standard method of welding stainless steel, creates a significantly larger Heat Affected Zone (HAZ), damaging the metal’s properties and ability to remain corrosion-resistant.

The result is a higher-quality moonshine still that will last you for many years to come!

Why we like Stainless Steel over Copper

When you think of distilling, you probably picture the old-time copper moonshine stills. If you’re distilling alcohol, then you have some nasty sulfur compounds in your wash that formed during fermentation. You’ll want copper to help neutralize those sulfur compounds and improve your final product’s taste and smell, but you need very little copper to get this benefit. Copper mesh, scrubbers, or rings in a stainless steel column will give you the same results.

There are other benefits to copper, too. Copper is better at conducting heat than stainless steel, which can save time on initial heat-up; however, it also means equally increased heat loss. Copper is easier for the novice to build with because it’s a much softer metal than stainless steel, and more readily accessible.

As pretty as it is, though, there are some reasons why all-copper moonshine stills may not be the best option. First, copper is much more difficult to clean than stainless steel. If you’re not diligent about cleaning your still, you’ll taste it in your product, it’s not good. Copper is also considerably more expensive than stainless steel and not as versatile. You can distill essential oils or water in a stainless column by removing the copper column packing, but you may not like your results if you do this in a copper alcohol still. Copper’s reactivity can be of benefit in some distillations and a drawback in others.

HIGH SPIRITS TURBO YEAST

Other companies use private labeled yeast, which means that they put their label on another brand’s yeast and resell it as their own. That’s fine, but it’s not what we do. High Spirits yeast is made in-house from our own recipes as a result of more than four years of development and is exclusive to Brewhaus and stores who buy from us.

What sets High Spirits turbo yeast apart is that High Spirits does not contain urea. In fermentation, urea can produce ethyl carbamate, which has been found to cause cancer. It has even been banned in beverage alcohol production in some countries. If the label doesn’t specifically say that there’s no urea in it, then your yeast may contain urea.

The results are a cleaner fermentation, with fewer off-flavors when compared with other brands.
